Academic Scholarship Information

A non-renewable award of $5000 will be awarded to two (2) high school seniors planning to enroll in a post-secondary institution (two or four-year college or vocational/technical school).  ​

Instructions, Deadlines and General Information

Please carefully review the eligibility requirements, required documents to be submitted, and timelines. Incomplete applications that do not meet the stated eligibility criteria will not be considered for award.

Once you submit your application and receive a confirmation email, please add that email address to your address book to ensure receipt of future emails.

 

All scholarship selections are final. We will not accept appeals.

Application Deadline: Monday, April 8, 2024

Eligibility Requirements

  • Applicant must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident of the U.S.

  • Applicant must have 

    • Documented chronic medical condition

    • Under a physician’s care

    • Currently undergoing treatment for the medical condition

  • Applicant must be a high school senior currently attending Georgetown ISD schools (GHS, EVHS, Richarte HS) (Georgetown, TX) or Rochelle Township High School (Rochelle, IL)

  • Applicant must have a cumulative HS GPA of 2.5 or higher (on a 4.0 scale)

  • Applicant must be planning to attend a post-secondary institution (2-yr., 4-yr. college or vocational/technical/school) in the fall with full-time status (minimum 12 hrs.)

  • Applicant must complete a 500-word essay

What You Need to Submit

  • Application Form

  • Two formal letters of recommendation (must be from teachers, administrators, or guidance counselors)

  • Current physician's letter documenting chronic medical condition

    • Current is considered within the past six months of application deadline​

  • Minimum of 500-word essay

  • Submit all documentation (e.g., application, letters, and essay) to info@brendanddowneymemorialfund.org

Do Not Submit

  • Do not include any high school transcripts

  • Do not include any photographs of yourself

  • Do not include your Social Security Number (SSN)

Expected Timelines

  • Application Deadline: April 8, 2024

  • Scholarship awarded in early May 2024

  • Please adhere to the application deadline
